We are now in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where Jeannie was raised. We actually have an Internet connection at the RV Park so it is time to "catch up"

We stayed with Walt and Barb for several days and we had a great time hanging out with them. We managed to take a nice boat trip around the southern part of Flathead Lake and Walt and I got in nine holes at the local course. The highlight was an all-day trip to Glacier National Park. It is a beautiful (and a little scary) drive and the scenery is really amazing.

We left Barb and Walt's house on July 18th and spent the next three nights "on the road" staying in Chinook, Montana, Williston, North Dakota and Grand Forks North Dakota. I must share a photo of our "RV Park" in Chinook. What a joke. It was just a vacant lot with dirt and weeds. We put our money in an envelope and shoved it under the door. Never saw a soul.

We had a nice time in Williston North Dakota. Lot's of farms and oil rigs wherever you looked. Jeannie's niece Ashley and soon to be husband, Caleb live in Williston and they invited us to their house. They fed us dinner (meat on a stick is always a winner) and we visited several hours. I was amazed because every driveway on their street had at least one pick-up truck. Caleb and his brother had two a piece. I finally felt at home in my truck! LOL

We got Detroit lakes on Friday and that night was Jeannie's 45th high school reunion. We had a great time and i met many new people some who we are seeing again in the week that we are camped here.

We spent the weekend hanging out with Jeannie's brother John and his wife Karen. We had a great time with them and look forward to seeing them more when we go on our cruise to the Mediterranean in September. Of course we had to go see the world's largest Loon.

That is all for now. We will post again later this week before we leave Detroit Lakes (Friday). Tonight is a ride on a houseboat out on the lake.

A Special Day in History

Today is the 64th annual Over the Line World Championship in San Diego. This is the first time in 40 years that I have not been part of my team playing on Fiesta Island. So, here is to my OTL buddies Ken Horner, Bill Susdorf, Jeff Stone and Chuck Rathbone and our team, Just Here for the Beer!

Crater Lake National Park

We spent two days in Crescent Oregon at a very nice RV park (except there was no Internet). But we did get our satellite dish to work for our Directv so we weren't roughing it too bad.
The first day we took a drive up to the Salt Creek Falls. It is the second tallest water fall in Oregon at 289 feet.

The next day we went to Crater Lake National Park and it was definitely a worthy trip. The lake is huge and very beautiful.

SPECIAL NOTE: We had no Internet for the entire trip through Oregon> RV parks say they have wi fi but they really do not!!! So there will be a few blogs in a row so we can catch up.

First Night Out

We left about 9:00 am this morning and within two miles of getting on the 50 freeway headed toward Sacramento a flock of geese decided to walk across the freeway. Needless to say there was carnage on the freeway and everyone came to a screeching halt. Geesh. Dead geese everywhere. Thank god no pictures on that one. We got to the McLoud RV Park about 3:00 pm and the set-up went very well. Except for our $2,500 satellite dish that is supposed to fin=d the satellites all by itself.  It didn't Turns out that there were some very big trees that blocked the path. So, we are really roughing it tonight. We only have the cable TV provided by the RV Park and we can't even DVR that!

So, we got here in time to do some sight seeing. We went to the McCloud River up the road where there are three waterfalls that are popular with the locals and the tourists. Very nice and here are some pictures from our day.

The Trip Begins

Tomorrow, Sunday, July 9th we will be starting our two month trip across the United States and back. We are all packed up and ready to go. Here is a map that shows our route both across the United States to South Carolina and then all the way back to Shingle Springs. As you can see, there will be many stops along the way. The numbers simply identify the various stops. We will be staying multiple days at many of these stops.

A week to go before we take off on our trip across the country. I was just sitting in the back yard and a surprise friend came to visit. Who needs to travel to the mountains and across the country to see wildlife? We can find it right in the back of Jeannie's back yard. A young male deer with two prongs.

Pre-Trip Installation

Today the new fender flares for the truck showed up and I decided that I was up to installing them. I had watched a video on how to install the fender flares and thought that it looked pretty straight forward. LOL

Perseverance won the day and I finally, after four hours figured out to do it. The results are quite nice and now the rocks from the tires will be contained. Plus, it looks pretty cool.
